Steve and I have had the best weekend with his cousin (on tbe Carlin side) Andrea and her husband David.  Hull/Hessle in Southern Yorkshire is Geoff's home ( Stephen's father) and it is emotional to come back. We talked about our visit 21 years ago with Claire and David and our visit 8 years ago and also when Claire visited them after that. I am not sure how long ago that was but it was clear Andrea and David were very happy to have a visit from Claire all those years ago. We saw Stephen's other cousin Michael as well this visit. Both have no recollection of their last meeting when they were babies almost 62 years ago.

We went out to dinner with Andrea and David at a local pub on Sat night and I had  really great meal. Wild Sea Bass with Samphire. I only knew what Samphire was because I watched this interesting show on SBS about a man travelling around England in a Combie van tasting and cooking local produce. Samphire grows on the sea marshes and spends a lot of time under water. It is very green, crunchy and tastes like the sea. The host gave me some raw to taste. It was just fabulous. In the dish it was very lightly cooked and still crunchy. It was just wonderful with the fish.

Despite lots of rain there was a respite on Sunday and the sun came out for a while and we even managed to have lunch outside .. with sun too. Andrea (with a little help from David ) has a beautiful garden which they are rightly very proud of. All of the rain recently has given it a bit of a beating but it still looks wonderful. I so enjoyed going around with Andrea and investigating all her plants. You will see lots of their garden :-)

It appears we were lucky to get out of Cornwall and Wales when we did as they have had dreadful floods over the weekend. It may be mid June and summer but it is very cold over here. Very cold - I repeated this just in case you weren't quite sure I was serious lol.

I am writing this from Linlithgow, not far from Edinburgh. Andrea and David don't have Internet access and I had strong withdrawal symptons while I was disconnected. It is good to be back on line.
