WOW!!! SNOW!!! The Alps were absolutely beautiful. Breathtaking. Pine trees capped in snow and clear blue skies it was fantastic. We got the coach to France which took a staggering 18 hours. Not the most pleasant ride, but the way back was definately worse as we were so fatigued and bruised. We (being myself, Sarah, Ben and Greg- some friends from my first residence in London) hired our boards and boots etc and signed up for lessons as soon as we got there. Sarah and I stayed at beginners. It was an intensive week, gone for ten days, boarding for seven straight. Well, I lie, I did take one day off to frollick in the snow and build snow people. I also found a lone toboggan and played around on it on top of the highest peak. I got a video of myself going down it backwards. I only make it a few metres before I plunge into the fresh powdered snow, bum down legs around my head.
My boarding skills were not exactly amazing. The first few days went well, but after I took so many tumbles, my pride, confidence and body got a little battered and it got harder. One of the best experiences I've had though and I am determined to do it again. It was funny being on the green slope (the easiest) sprawled across the ground after a fall and seeing 20 pairs of 5 year old legs go past me at an incredible speed.
The place we were staying put on events every night so there was plenty to do. Most nights we were so exhausted and full (buffet three meals a day, and lots of CHEESE) we just fell into bed. I woke up more tired then I fell asleep every day. A very rewarding experience overall and I'll be back in the snow ASAP!!!
