Morning nice weather again, walked down to the crossroad to get on a route taxi to the next bigger town in my travel direction, Falmouth. Route taxis are a great invention I find. These are normal cars with red plates driving along a specific route, they pick up and drop people anywhere more or less along the route. Already second car which stopped had the correct destination. The problem is you don't see it in advance because the route is written on the side door. So all you can do is just hold your hand out and ask every driver where they go. They pick up as many people as fit into the car. The half an hour drive costs about a dollar. I got dropped at the bus stop and asked for the next one to Ochi. Since I was one of the first persons, it took about an hour before we left because the driver only leaves if the bus is more than full and on the way he keeps honking at people along the road and picking them up too. This is the cheap local transport I use, there is also tourist transport, but we only stopped such a bus once by mistake and the driver wanted 35 dollars for three persons which is like at least three times more of what we then paid for the route taxi. If I understood it well, there is like a double transport system, the local one and then one for tourists which is called JUTA, I guess there you have your seat granted and don't end up having a big person sitting on half of your leg or in the most crowded car I sat I shared the front seat with someone in addition. But it's all about the experience isn't it ;-)
Once I sat in an overcrowded minibus when we drove into a police control. But they obviously don't care about the amount of people, they just check the maintenance of the vehicle, which is a good thing actually, since then I feel a little less scared when the driver attacks the road with full speed around the corner. Or does a full break because a passenger asks for 'one stop driver'.
