I'm almost half way through my trip!!! It's so crazy! I got on my first Oz experience bus from Melbourne on Tuesday morning. There were 19 others on the bus going to Sydney so it was good fun! Stinger, our guide/driver was great. He knows so much about Australia and told us lots of great stories. Our first stop was Wilsons Promontory, Australia's most northern point. We went to Squeaky Beach (called this because the sand squeaks when you walk on it barefoot!!) for lunch which is the most beautiful place I think I've ever seen! It was stunning!! We then had another 3 hours drive before arriving at Lake's Entrance which is quite a quiet touristy town. We had fish and chips for dinner at a local restaurant (first fish and chips since leaving home! Was yummm!) and then headed back to our hostel as everyone was quite tired from the early start!

We had a five hour drive the next morning along some very bumpy windy roads!! Stinger was pegging it so we were literally flying through the mountains!! Our lunch stop was in a lovely little place called Jindabyne. It was soooooooooo windy that the ski lift to take you up the mountains had stopped. We got to our hostel in the afternoon and a few of us went out for walk up Australia's highest mountain, Mount Kosciuszko! Without the ski lift it was quite a trek! After 30 mins of steep climbing (and falling!) some of us decided that we'd done enough exercise for one day so made our way back down! Three guys made it all the way to the top, they said their hands and face went blue because it was so cold and windy! Meanwhile the rest of us that had gone back were enjoying the Jacuzzi at the hostel!!! In the evening we had a party for one of the guys on the trip as it was his birthday the day before. Another Oz Experience bus arrived so there was quite a crowd of us which was good fun.

On Thursday we stopped off at Canberra which we all thought was quite a strange little place! Everything is man-made so is in perfectly straight lines and all of it is just spotless... Stinger described it as Truman Town (after the film The Truman Show) and that's exactly what it's like! We then had a few more hours driving before arriving in Sydney around 5pm. A few of us from the bus are staying in a hostel called the Jolly Swagman. We were spoilt the last few days staying in some really nice hostels in rooms altogether, so being in a room with complete strangers was a little bit daunting! Everyone there seemed very settled, it seems to be a place people come and stay at while they are working, quite a few people have been there over 6 months! So it took a while to get use to it but now we all feel quite at home! I met three really nice girls (Harriet, Esther and Sophie) on the bus who are also leaving Sydney tomorrow morning so I will be spending the next few days with them and then hopefully meet others travelling in the same time scale that I have!

We had a lovely day on Friday in the city. Weather was great so we sat in the Botanical gardens for a bit and then went and had a look at the Opera House which was really cool! We then climbed one of the look out towers of The Harbour Bridge and got a stunning few of the city. We spent our other afternoon at a beach called Manly. It was a really nice place but it unfortunately wasn't quite beach weather!

Last night we were introduced to the goon (a very cheap wine kinda thing!) which backpackers in Oz seem to live off in the evenings! After a few games in the hostel we went the New World Bar where we had tokens for free drinks! The past few nights we've managed to go out and spend nothing!!! It rocks!! Today we did a few jobs in the morning, washing etc and then went to Bondi beach in the afternoon. Unfortunately the weather hasn't been great today either so we stayed for a few minutes and then headed for a little cafe before we were swept away out to sea!! We wanted to do a walk along the coast, but would have just got drenched!! We've an early start tomorrow, off further up north to Surf Camp where we're going to have a surf lesson!!! Should be a laugh!!

Hope you're all well, loads and loads of love xxxxxxx
P.S Running out of internet time so will add some more photos next time!! There's so many i want to show you!!!

What a coincidence!
Can't beleive that as I posted my last comment to you here in England - you must have been posting your Sydney comment cos when I returned to my inbox there it was!! Isn't the internet amazing! Sounds as if you are still having fun! Pleased that you have made some friends! Shame the weather hasn't been great for you - hope that it improves. Night life sounds good and free!!!

Canada
Hi Anna - what a great update - you really do sound as if you are having just the greatest time. Would love to go to Oz one day - especially Melbourne where I have a very old BBC Singers friend! Hope by now the sun in shining!

I am over here in Canada visiting the little KS family and seeing tiny. or not so tiny Phoebe! She is doing really well and up to 7lbs which is just great. She went and had her final eye check yesterday (quite a horrid experience to watch - Paul had to go with her this time as Laura couldn't face it!) and her eyes are perfect - the retina damage has healed itself which is just wonderful. Laura has to feed her every 2.5 to 3hours so is utterly sleep deprived which is just hard graft when you have another one to look after also! I have tried to do as much as I can in the cooking/washing department - every little helps! Back to Blighty tomorrow and then back to work on Wednesday if I can keep my eyes open! Apparently I can buy Melatonin over the counter here so might get some and see how well it works!
Peter had a major job interview yesterday for a job in a practice in Gloucester but as yet has not heard and wont for a few weeks - Rosanne is finding it so hard to be patient - she desperately wants to know where she is going to be living permanently!
Amy sits at her computer most of the day at the moment writing her 8000 word dissertation - poor thing - I couldn't do it!
We are just off to church so will end this!
Much love
Cherith xx
