Hello!
I had just spent half an hour typing up an entry to put on this site and then there was a power cut!!! - they seem to be a very regular part of life in Southern India, so lets hope I can get this done before the next one happens!!
I had a great time (once the tummy had settled!! J ) in Kolkata. A few highlight were going to the Sunderband Islands, (we didn't see any tigers but it was a stunning place to be!) visiting Brother Gaston (- the most amazing and inspirational gentleman I have ever met who runs a home for mentally and or physically disabled people) and spending 2 days at Udayan which was so much fun! On our last evening they put on a performance for us which was brilliant, we then had to follow which was...probably not so brilliant but good fun! We then had an amazing meal on the rooftop which they had decorated with fairy lights! I don't have my camera lead with me at the moment so can't upload any pictures unfortunately!
On Thursday morning (after an emotional goodbye to the group on Wednesday evening!) I got a flight from Kolkata to Chennai where I was met by Ravi, a member of staff from Projects Abroad. We then caught a train at 9pm from Chennai which arrived in Sivakasi at 7am on Friday...which I've just realized was yesterday!?! Seems about a week ago!!! In the evening we left the Projects Abroad office and traveled about 2 hours in the car to my placement. On the way we stopped off to meet 6 volunteers who are doing conservation project about 30 mins from my accommodation. They are all really nice and I have spent the day with them today in a town called Tenkasi (about 1 hour from where I am staying).
The family I am staying with are lovely. It is a typical Indian household with Mr & Mrs Gomathinayagm (I am still working on the pronunciation!!) their two sons and daughter in-laws and 3 children. I have a room upstairs with a shower and the toilet (Indian style! - Ames and Em, you'd love it!!) is downstairs. Another medical volunteer is arriving sometime next week who I will share the room with so that'll be nice to have some company.

Tomorrow I'm hoping to go to an Indian wedding with the conservation volunteers which would be really cool. However, today my stomach has been...lets say, not so keen on the southern Indian food...so we shall see!!! We tried to go and see a film this afternoon, after having been assured it was the right film a dozen times it wasn't! - very typical of India, you ask for one thing and get the complete opposite!! None of us fancied sitting through the film that was on so we made a quick exit! I start work at the hospital on Monday which I'm really looking forward to so will update you all on how that goes and also put some pictures up later in the week!
I hope you're all well,
Lots of love xxxx

P.S My hotmail isn't working at the moment so I unfortunately can't read / send any e-mails sent but will hopefully do that later in the week!

Yo dude
Good to hear that you've arrived safely after leaving the st joans lot. Hope you enjoyed the wedding and have got to experience lots of Indian home life!
Had mum and paul here last week - Paul thought he was pretty good until we tackled a (fairly easy) black and then he had to go and get new sallopets (something that you'll be familiar with!) It's been snowing more than I ever imagined it could, so we've been having some incredible skiing in waist deep powder.
Enjoy the start of your medical adventure - keep that fainting under control!
Lots of love, Tom xx

Hello from Oma :)
Surprise surprise, I am not really doing this on my own, i am getting a little bit of help from Alex :). How's it going at the hospital? And how is the tummy behaving? Papa and I are doing fine. Tom and Dineke are coming on the 13th March for a long weekend and then I am going to Holland in the easter holidays for a week when your Mum and Mark are coming to look after Papa. Now here is Alex :) Hello, Harry and I are going skiing next week in France and are both very excited. Harry seems to think that he will be able to 360 by the end of the week, I am not so sure. Its lovely to hear what is going on with you.
Lots of Love
Oma, Papa, Cate, Paul, Alex and Harry

Hello again
We hope all is going well for you done in the South of India. What are you up to?

Do you get to wear a white coat at the hospital? And are you having to do long hours?

Back here it's very quiet in the Sheridan household. Laura and Patrick are in New York. They will be back on Tuesday 3rd March, all being well.

Enjoy your work. We are often thinking about you.
