Due to our Visas coming close to expiring, we headed north again, back past Chiang Dao and Fang. I should explain at this point that on our previous visits we had not realized we'd need to do this. It was after much investigation, and failing, to find ways of us flying out then back in to the country in order to get a 30 day visa, while still maintaining a shoestring budget for travelling. India was out the window. A cheap flight had tripled in price with airport taxes. After ruling out returns to places, we had one option that was viable. A day trip to Myanmar. Although we would only get stamped for another 15 days, it would be cheap to travel through Thailand by Bus, and the transfer cost the other side were also minimal. Being in Bangkok when it next ran out we added Burma to our list of countries on our world tour.
Mae Sae is the border town Thailand side, and it was much like any border town you would expect, designed for day visitors with market stalls the main attraction. My advice is don't lose 5mins of your life talking to a salesman about 40baht Oakleys, even after confirming 3 times that this was the price, once I showed the colour of my money it was suddenly 10 fold. "Stop wasting my time old man."
We found a hotel to crash for the night and got ourselves ready for country no.8 on our trip.
