So we woke up on Hilton Head ready to see what the big deal was. I was anticipated snobby, overpriced atmosphere. I was pleasantly surprised. We started the day with a big breakfast at a diner and enjoyed talking to our server, who was building a house in mexico. Then we proceeded to the public beach. It is a truly amazing beach where the tide goes out about 12 feet and the beach increases dramatically in size. Since it was Independence Day weekend, it was very crowded. We sat on the beach, went swimming and then proceeded to the Tiki Bar, seeking shade. We drank our drinks and watched beach volleyball. The ball went off the court and spilled a woman's beer. At this point, we were beached out and in danger of frying our skin off (there cannot be enough sunscreen!), so we decided to play mini golf.

Golf is a Hilton Head institution and I'm told that some of the best US golf courses are on the island. Much to my mother's dismay, I have no desire to try golf after the disaster of 9th grade gym, so I couldn't tell you about it. I occasionally play miniature golf, but do not enjoy all the trinkety 'clown' stuff involved. With that introduction, I would like to say that mini golf on Hilton Head Island was a treat. It was in the shade, and had only sand/water traps, just like a regular golf course. No clown material in sight! We played all 18 holes and I have an excellent first shot on most holes, but put it in the water usually, so I lost by 2 strokes. It was fun and now I can tell everyone that I golfed on Hilton Head.

We then ate BBQ for dinner and took an evening swim. We then continued our roadtrip. We briefly considered heading to Charleston, but decided to go to Beaufort instead.
