Wednesday was Harry Potter movie day! I wore a temporary tattoo that looked like the Gryffindor crest but it ended up looking like someone had punched me in the face so I took it off on the bus.  We drove to Lacock where a bunch of the beginning of the 6th move was shot (where Harry and Dumbledore walk down the street to Slughorn's house and the house itself) and the Potter’s house from the first movie where you see a hand open the gate and later a flash of green light.  It was so cool to see Lacock in the movie later that night!  The town itself is super cute and is frequently used for movies and period pieces; it’s like in Odense in that the owners are restricted from altering any of the outside structure.  After exploring the very small town we went into Lacock Abbey, which was also used for many hallway and Hogwarts shots in HP 1-4.  The rooms were used in HP 1 for Snape’s potions classroom, Quirell’s classroom, and the room where Harry found the Mirror of Erised.  In Snape’s classroom our group had our own sorting ceremony in which everyone was placed in a house by the rest of the group: I was Gryffindor, David was Slytherin (more by chose, otherwise he might have been a Ravenclaw), mom was Ravenclaw, and dad was a Huffleputt so we definitely had house unity going on in our family.  It was funny because at one point two kids and their dad wandered in and were watching so we let them get sorted also!

The hallways were notably used when Harry came out of detention with Professor Lockheart in COS and started hearing the basilisk in the pipes saying "kill, kill!" and where Snape was grabbing for Harry under the invisibility cloak when he was sneaking around in SS to see the mirror.  Quirell’s classroom is recognizable from SS when Professor McGonagall knocked on the door to ask for quidditch captain, Oliver Wood, to introduce to Harry after his frist flying lesson (that happened in Alnwick Castle).  After taking many reenactment shots we had lunch at the George Inn, which had a bunch of pictures of different movie sets in Lacock including HBP!  After lunch we went back into London and were responsible for dinner on our own.  We’d been eating a lot of pub food lately and were looking for something different and David was craving Indian food.  We asked a local for a recommendation and got the Big Easy.  We went in and it reminded me of a nicer version of a mix between Chili’s and Logan’s.  We sat down and then saw the slogan, “most authentic US-sytle food in London;” it definitely wasn’t exactly what we were looing for sine we didn’t want to waste a meal in London on American food we could get back home but we stayed and had a nice dinner anyway.

We went to a bookstore before the movie started and I felt a little sacrilegious purchasing Eclipse on HP day but I had been looking for it in paperback and finally found it!  We then met up with the rest of our group to watch the movie!  I’d never seen a cinema screen that clear before and it was so exciting (although I have to say that I missed my traditional dressed up midnight premiers with my friends).  There were definitely bits of the movie that I felt they shouldn’t have left out and some additional scenes that were different and I was ultimately a little disappointed (I usually am if the book is fresh in my mind at first viewing).  I very much enjoyed it though and wanted to watch it again soon.
