Hi Friends and Family,

Today I would like to tell you about an Islamic holiday called Eid. On this day holiday all Islamic families have to kill a sheep. Right now people only have two days to get their sheep because Eid starts on Wednesday.

How this holiday came to be is that many, many years ago God said to Abraham if you truly love me go out to the desert and kill your son. So Abraham took his only son to the dessert to kill him. Then at the last moment God replaced his son for a sheep and the son lived. God said to Abraham now I know you truly love me more than everything.

So now people are getting their live sheep to kill at home. Right now, the sheep are very expensive because it is so close to Eid.

A couple days a go we saw a man hitchhiking with his sheep. There are trucks full of sheep. Yesterday we saw a man getting a sheep into his little car. He had to put it in the trunk! There are sheep everywhere!

On Eid only the male sheep (or rams) get killed.  They save the females to reproduce more babies.  Once the sheep is killed they have to give one third to family and friends, one third for themselves, and one third to the poor.

I'll try to keep you posted,

                         Anna

Anna, Like the best of us, they seem to appreciate the gift of sustenance and understand that food is sacred. In short, they "love" what they eat. I like the sharing aspect. It must be a happy time for most of the people during this holiday.
Thanks for this posting. It made my day. Now, I am going to eat some more of your good raspberry jam on toast. Jesse

hi Anna!
Thanks for sharing information about this VERY interesting holiday. I bet right about now Moroccan sheep and American turkeys could really commiserate! We helped Gus and Joy slaughter turkeys one year and I found it very difficult. I know there is no way I could kill a mammal. Isn't that odd. Birds, I could kill, but not a mammal. Hmmm. Maybe I should not eat meat.
We got a lot of slush snow at our house this weekend. We can't see the soccer fields anymore! But, down in town there is hardly any snow. I can't stop thinking about our little kitties. I think we'll name the little girl, Stella, which means "star" in Italian. We are still trying to find the perfect Danish name for the little boy kitty. I'll let you know as soon as we decide! Miss you! xoxo

At last I can read your blog! And since I haven't seen previous ones, I'm lucky to get this one because it is sooooooooooo interesting. And funny. Pushing the sheep into the car! Of course, I know the story of Abraham and Isaac, but didn't know that was how Islamics celebrated it. That story is where the trouble began. Howmany years ago?

We're in Florida now and are taking a loooooonnnng time getting settled. I guess low enery is sort of fun--you don't get stressed. What happens, happens. En shalla.

I'm going to look for the rest of your blogs now. What an interesting time you're having. It'll make studying geography and social studies more interesting. I can see that.

I love you lots! Grama Judy

Hey Anna! Yesterday I had a swim meet. I got in first and second place. Parent teacher confrence is coming up and It is next week. Mrs. K asked if she could borrow my family elder story as an example. How is Ifrane? I read the entry and have heard that story in the bible before. It is pretty interesting to know that people are still celebrating Christian holidays. Listen, Thanksgiving is coming up and I want to know how they celebrate it there or at least if they celebrate it . And after that is Emily's Birthday and then Christmas and I didn't even get to get you a present! Ugh! I wish you were here! We all miss you and you are going to miss choir! Email me!
