will update soon ...

hey everyone,

solvang is a danish community two hours from LA with loads of vinery and danish type things like pastries and pancakes! went along with Jen on a work trip, she does property mangement for Vons, who are owned by safeway. she manages several stores along the west coast north of california and had to do inspections so Alice, a friend of my cousin Quy decided to go along for the ride. decided Solvang was the nicest place to spend the night and take advantage of the wine tasting and do some sightseeing at the same time.

spent the first day driving all around towns along the west coast. theres some spectucular scenery along the coast, vast mountain ranges, very beautiful. went for dinnner in a steak house and had the largest rack of ribs i'd ever seen, and that was just half a rack apparently! only managed 4 out of about 12 ribs, the portions here are massive, its not healthy to eat so much! plus the meal comes with lots of added extras, like a hearty soup, salad, fried potatoes, rice, garlic bread and a rootbeer float if you have any space left after all that food! took the ribs away with us but didnt eat it in the end, like usual, so much food wastage here but theres no way i could finish the portions they serve.

the next day we got up early for paula's pancakes which are apparently extremely popular, theres normally a large queue of people waiting to be seated. luckily we didnt have to wait too long before we got seated. i had a combination pancake which has bacon, eggs and syrup. its quite similar to dutch pancakes but the fillings are served seperately.

after our pancakes we popped next day for some wine tasting. it was $6 to taste 5 wines and a souvenier logo wine glass. i tried the beginner selection which contained sweeter wines which are easier for us to handle. they were all pretty sweet and light but, to be honest, i couldnt really remember the difference between any of them! i dont think i've quite got the whole wine thing sorted just yet!

after the food and wine we were all ready to go to bed and it was not even midday yet! so to wake ourselves up we decided to hire out a 4 seater pedal bike, so funny. it was much harder to get the bike moving then we realised. and after a few minutes we were all knackered! it was so funny riding along the streets though, im sure we were a tourist attraction alone! we got so tired in the end we took it in turns to get out and push from behind, halirious!

after our adventures on the bike we desperately need some air-con and retreated back to the comfort of the car. then we picked up a box of pastries for quy and everyone and set off for home. popped into santa brabara for some clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl. its a really nice town actually, along the coast, so theres a nice sea breeze which is soo good when its baking outside. had a good couple of days hanging with the girls and checking out more of the west coast. theres so much to see in the US, im looking forward to coming back one day to ski and camp.
