J, K and S live in a ex-convent (and home for "troubled girls") which is also an ex- refugee processing centre and is now supposed to be up for sale. It's made up of a collection of buildings, each with a different tenant, and surrounded by a grass farm growing rolled up lawn for, I imagine, city houses.
It's amazingly peaceful and quiet, and gorgeously warm late summer weather. Last evening there were even hot air balloons in the distance.
Getting here wasa little more traumatic, there was no public phone at the station in Breda and their wifi wasn't very functional, so I walked into the centre of town only to find most of the streets blocked off for a running race. I ended up in a cafe near the main church watching crowds cheer on runners, deafened by the commentators' sound system, and trying to ring Joris in the gaps when the brass band wasn't playing. Let's just say I was relieved when K picked up the phone and we arranged to meet back at the station.
The rest of the day was just walking around the grounds, coveting their fruit trees, meeting other residents and sitting in the sun playing with S.
