After a too short night on the plane, we arrived in Rome. We had a driver waiting for us and made it to our hotel without incident. We are staying at the hotel provided by our cruise line, which is nice enough but it is a golf resort outside of Rome. Darn, we forgot the clubs. Sooo, we were sitting in the lobby, discussing if we should give in to our jet lag or go into Rome, when a guy with the hotel asked us if we were waiting for the shuttle, which was coming soon. We decided to go into Rome on the shuttle. We are really glad we did.

Now, even though I have seen "Three Coins in a Fountain" and" Roman Holiday" many times, I did not expect Rome to be like it is. Somehow my idea of Rome, and Ken's too, was very wrong. The many large trees (as Ken said "The pines of Rome") and open spaces and the fascinating back streets with antiquities around most every corner combined to make this interesting and comfortable. It is a lot less hectic and much cleaner than I was expecting. We didn't see the famous landmarks yet but I am loving this place. We found a lovely little restaurant, Vinando, in one of the backstreets, had a lovely dinner and took the shuttle back to the hotel. Had a drink in the bar here and finally we get to sleep.

Tomorrow we have a guided tour of Rome and Ken thinks he is going to meet the Pope. Stay tuned to see if that happens.
Here are some I tires from today.

Guys, envy you! Though you will wait---hope you see the Borghese, the Vatican, and of course St. Peters. In old Rome the Colliseum, and by there St. Pietro houses Michelanglos MOSES. In the Borghese the Canovas and Bellini statues are truly remarkable. Wished I had known about this as I would have introduced you the guide we had. Christiana was great. Do not forget to walk, lull, relax on the Spanish Steps---action city. That street has great shops---Ken restrain the two of them!! Ciao! John R.

Be sure to watch over the ruins at sundown as the lights come on below. Great experience!
