The weather continues to be excellent down here and they were cleaning the villa today, so we decided to go on a day trip to the Harris Neck National Wildlife Refuge which is south of Savannah.  It took us almost 2 hours to get there, but we are always fascinated by the small towns in this part of the country.  They are beautiful little towns with old live oak trees dripping with Spanish moss.

So here's the rundown of the wildlife we saw today:  It started out with a large feline of some sort along the road.  I have no idea what this was.  Both Ken and I saw it.  It was not a Bobcat, it had a large feline tail.  It was way too big to be a house cat.  Cougars do not live in this part of the country and Florida panthers do not come this far north - it was too small to be a cougar or a panther anyway.  Maybe it escaped from a zoo.  This will drive me crazy forever.

At the wildlife refuge we saw way too many alligators, coots, moorehens, a large colony of Black Capped Night Herons in trees, with both adults, sub-adults and first year herons

.  There were also blue and green winged teal, Red-breasted Mergansers and Buffleheads (my current favorite). We also say a large colony of White Ibis, also with fledglings and some snowy Egrets mixed in.  Many Vultures and an unidentified hawk which was just too far away to id.  But I knew it wasn't a vulture so I am calling it "not a vulture".

The refuge itself was beautiful.  It was very handicapped accessible, the trails would work for someone in a wheel chair.  Very Cool.  It contained freshwater ponds and ocean front.
