Things seemed to finally be getting smoothed out after a week of us both being sick. Our plane left Minneapolis on time and we had an uneventful flight to Seattle. We boarded the flight in Seattle on time. We were a little delayed leaving because it seemed that some passengers didn't understand the concept of "sit down", and one guy got thrown off of the plane for being intoxicated. Then we taxied down the runway and the captain came on to tell us that they had neglected to include some paperwork in the baggage hold. For the first time in my flying career we made a uturn to go back and get something (someone told us it was a FedEx overnight letter that hadnt gotten loaded - they would never go back for a passenger but for FedEx anything is possible). Finally off we went. The flight along the Canadian and Alaskan coast was unexpectedly beautiful- I guess I thought we would just set off across the Pacific. About an hour and a half into the flight the captain came on to say "well folks, it just isn't our day". He said there was something wrong with the airconditioing system which affected cabin pressurization- we were dumping fuel and going back to Seattle at a lower altitude more slowly to burn off more fuel. Watched the plane make a u turn on the map. We did get the appetizer portion of our meal though. Got back to the airport and they told us we would by put up in a hotel, give us meal vouchers $6 per person for dinner - just didn't know how to spend it all at once. They told us we would leave the next morning at 8 am, to be at the airport at 6:30.
We get to the hotel, eat some crappy food, go back to the room. It's midnight and I realize I left my purse in the bar. At this point I just wanted to go home. Ken, my hero, went down to the bar and found it. We finally go to bed and dutifully get up at 5 to get back to the airport.

Very groggy, we get to the airport shortly after 6, only to find out that they were using the same crew from our original flight and hello, they had timed out, and we couldn't leave until 2 pm. So here we sit wondering if this vacation will ever really start. Probably won't get to the ship for another 24 hours. Virtually no sleep for 48 hours..

So Ken and I were discussing this adventure so far and have rated it second only to the infamous "party bus" adventure of a few years ago. We couldn't land in Palm Springs, we diverted to San Diego, Delta rented buses to take us to Palm Springs, which turned out to be party busses complete with black interiors, stripper poles and black upholstered kind of gross benches around the perimeter. It went down hill from there, ask us about it next time see us.

We will let you know if we ever get to the ship or we spend the next 30 days in the SeaTac Sky Club.

Oh, Andrea, what a drag! I hope that you get some rest, so you can enjoy the rest of the trip. I'm convinced it will all be worth it---but I'm not the one with the $6 meal voucher! Hi to Ken!

You two are so-o-o-o lucky! We just got back from Hawaii, and the only crappy thing that happened as a busted airplane in Denver that made us 2 hours late. Wow ... $6. You probably had steak.
