We were facing a long drive from Rotorua to Wellie so we decided to stop off in a small town about an hours north of Wellie called Paraparaumu. The views on the drive down were stunning ---- the scenery in NZ is just second to none, eventhough were kinda getting used to it now!!! The beach at Paraparaumu was absolutely gorgeous so we headed to local chip shop and got fish and chips and then went for Irish cream. Kapiti ice cream is famous in this part of New Zealand so we had to try it as it would be rude not to.....it was so good. The next morning we went to a local Chocolate factory called Nico's, they usually run tours a few times a day but the lady that run the tours was on holidays so we just had a wonder around the shop and bought loads of chocolate.

We were getting the lunch time ferry to Picton (south island) from Wellie, we had heard that the ferry could be very rough so I wasn't looking forward to it but it actually was a fairly smooth sailing. The ferry was loaded up with Irish campervans -- no suprise there!! Coming into the Marlborough sounds just north of Picton was amazing and we got some really great pictures. It gave us a great taste of what the south island was going to be like as most people agree that the south island's scenery is much more breathtaking than the north island.
