Second day in CM, after getting on so well in Pai with the moped, we hired one again as we wanted to check out Wat Doi Suthep
. This is a major famous temple up in the mountains about 10Kms outside of CM. It was Buddha day too so it was full of Thai’s....this was both a good and bad thing...bad as it was so busy but good as we got to experience the place in full swing!! The attached photos just speak for themselves. The Wat is just so amazing and I think we appreciated more as we hadn’t been to any Wats in CM as we were Watted out from Thailand already. That afternoon we headed to shopping centre near the airport as it tends to rain in the afternoons here (well any excuse to go shopping suits me). And to my utter delight they were showing the new Harry Potter movie...it had just been released that day so I skipped the queue and got us 2 tickets....I must have asked the girl about 500 times "is this the English version?" as I didn’t want to sit through 2 hours of Thai Harry Potter.
Rich said it was the happiest he’s seen me in our 7 years together as I got my hands on the tickets...anyone that knows me well will know how much I love HP so it was turning out to be my favourite day in Thailand so far....lol!!! For anyone that cares, it was excellent movie and I thought it was a savage depiction of the final HP book.
Weirdest thing happened in the cinema....were ye expecting that a trip to the cinema would be uneventful for us....ya right!
! There were about half an hour of ad’s...way worse than at home and just before the ad’s finished Richie made a wise crack about the King because in Thailand the King is extremely important and everyone loves him and there are plaques and posters of him plastered everywhere in Thailand. Next thing, a film about how great the King is comes up and the entire cinema stands up hands by their side and looks at the film and once it over (bout 4-5mins long) they bow their heads and sit down.....so weird and strange, but obviously this happens at every movie. I thought this was so strange but as Rich eloquently puts it......at the end of a nightclub at home we all stand up and sing “Amhran Na Bhfiann”...totally spelt that wrong but ye know what I mean!!
Right next adventure is the slow boat to Laos!!!
Angie & Richie xx
Back to CM we came after Pai, we both just really enjoyed CM the first time so we thought lets go back and chill for a couple of days (we also had to get our laundry done too...oh god how I miss Mammy Keoghs washing skills). We went back to the previous guesthouse we stayed in as it was so clean and really good value. It was run by an old hairy backed French Canadian dude...Victor and his Thai wife. They were really nice and not pushy at all as sometimes in CM guesthouse and hostel owners can be pushy about booking tours with them etc. We went to the night bazaar in CM that night and had western food....Pizza because of Rich's dodgy stomach issues. The night bazaar is mental and it a bit more for tourists as it’s just stalls and stalls full of touristy stuff but it was good to see anyway.
