Arriving in Shanghai it was evident that it's
much more tourist friendly  in a way that they speak more English there. Not
much but at least some. Driving into Shanghai we were blown away by the size of
this city, the crazy modern and innovative scyscrapers  and the fact that NYC
seems like a small town in comparison. Only Tokyo can hold a candle to Shanghai's grandeur. Our
hotel was in a shopping arcade (great! you cant escape the shopping but luckily
it was all ugly touristy stuff..) We were on Nanjing road which is the busiest
main street with tons of action, huge malls, glitzy neon, ad clad small colorful
trains and people EVERYWHERE. At first we found it cool and pleasing to the eye
but we soon missed the culture of Beijing, as Shanghai didn't feel much different from
NY.

Cyndi and Sebastian had already arrived earlier that day, but Cyndi was
feeling ill and had a fever and she suspected it was from a mosquito and spider
bite and they decided to go see a doctor. You never know what strange bugs were
flyging around the Great Wall...
Zandra me and Heidi got ready and started the evening at the world's
tallest hotel up in the bar on the 87th floor called Cloud 9. After that we
hopped in to a cab to go to a big famous Shanghai nightclub called Babyface. We
had gotten an old adress so we did a couple of detours. First we were let off
outside an apartment building so we got into another cab and that driver dropped
us off on a narrow street with
a bunch of road constuction, and some construction workers working late. Great,
you cant escape those guys w their leery remarks anywhere! But at least they
spoke in Chinese so that we didnt understand and I'm sure we provided some
entertainment for the shot second we walked past them.

Further up the street we got lured into a bar called New York. You'd expect something better from a place
named NY but after all the driving around we were happy to sit down and have a
couple of cheap drinks. Cyndi must have gotten some Chinese miracle cream
because she was already feeling better and Sebastian and her came out and joined
us. A bartender gave us the correct address for Babyface and that club was
everything you'd expect from a Shanghai nightclub; very good music, high energy,
amazing sound and light, fire juggling bartenders, private tables, VIP areas and
the most amazing bathroom I have ever seen in a nightclub anywhere. Our whole
crew got invited over to a table and we partied the night away. No early 4 am
closing there!!
