Since returning from our year of travel to far flung places, we were getting some serious withdrawal symptoms. The bank holiday was looming, and so it seemed the perfect time to escape for a few days. We had been planning to go to Istanbul in 2007, but circumstances and money prevented us from doing so. Therefore it was out first choice for a bit of a break.
We flew from Heathrow, which is so easy now we live practically down the road. So only 6 hours after leaving the house, we touched down in Turkey and found our hotel in the old part of the city. We had gone for as cheap a hotel as we could find without it being backpacker-like, so that we could save our money for having some fun.
Once we had checked in we walked down the road to sample the Turkish foods at a restaurant. We both had kebabs and an enormous bread that was a bit like pitta. We then sat on the roof terrace of our hotel and tried the Turkish beer before heading to bed.
