We headed south from Nairobi and were immediately among the Maasai people. We stayed in Arusha where I visited a local Masaai village. Once again the children were fascinated by us. The Maasai man who showed us around had shoes made of tyres which I thought was fabulous! They showed us into their homes and one of their schools.

We then headed to the Ngorongoro crater where we went on another game drive. The scenery was truly spectacular as we were in the middle of a crater surrounded by mountains, with greenery and wildlife everywhere. We saw masses of wildlife including gazelles, flamingos, a cheetah, some lions (my first in the wild!),hyenas, herds of wildebeest, a baby zebra, and elephants. We then drove to the Serengeti which was amazing. The area was so beautiful it almost makes you cry! We saw a huge storm come in from the distance and then the sun set over the acacia trees. We camped in the park overnight, with the worst toilet I have ever seen. During the night the hyenas raided the camp, but I slept through the whole thing! The next day we went on a game drive where we saw more lions, a feral cat, hippos, herds of elephants, giraffes and lots of crazy rock formations. We also saw a leopard in a tree but unfortunately I could not get a good photo of it because it was covered by tree, and then when it came out of the tree all I could see were ears above the grass.

We left the Serengeti and went to an area where they found human footprints 10000 years old. It is a gorge and there is a museum with information about early humans. Then we headed back to Arusha.
