From Sipi falls we headed to Uganda's capital, Kampala. It was a long drive that would take all day, so I braced myself for a long and boring day. Big mistake. First of all we got stuck in a traffic jam for 3 hours with no movement. When we finally got to the cause it was an overturned lorry in the middle of the road. Once we had cleared that we got stuck in another traffic jam. This time we could not move because we were in a big truck which could not squeeze between the other cars. I was on the roof of the truck when I saw a huge crowd of people running towards us. At first I wondered what it was so I took a photo. Then I realised it was some kind of riot. They were throwing large rocks at each other and shouting. We all hid inside the truck. I was very scared. It eventually passed and the traffic moved. We arrived into Kampala much later than expected.

The following day Rachel and I decided to go to Chimpanzee Island to see the chimps. It is a island in the middle of Lake Victoria which has been converted into one enormous sanctuary for chimpanzees. We went there to see the chimps and also because it was nice to see the lake. The chimps were very adorable, each with their own personality and there was even a cute little baby one that tried (unsuccessfully) to play with the others. The lake was very calm and serene with random branches floating on it with stalks sitting on them. There were loads of mosquitoes and also some monkeys that came to have a look at as (possibly to steal our lunch!). We left Kampala for Lake Bunyoni the following day, crossing the equator. This allowed us to mess around with "look I am in two hemispheres at once!" photos.
