The next day we left Cairns very early and headed to a wildlife reserve with many different types of birds and even some tree kangaroos. There were also some very cute little wallabies and a kangaroo with a joey in its pouch. From there we headed to the Mossman gorge where we walked through the rainforest looking at the strange and interesting plants and crazy tree roots. The gorge itself is a crystal clear stream flowing over huge rocks, surrounded by rainforest and very pretty. After lunch, where I finally licked a green ant (it tasted of lime), we headed for a cruise along the Daintree river, which is inhabited by crocodiles. The first one we saw was a baby, about 20cm long. The next was about 4m long, and we also saw one about a metre long. We even saw a python and a grass snake in a tree. There was also a frog that hopped on to the boat, which was bright green. The river was very pretty, surrounded by rainforest with mountains in the distance. From the river we headed along the coast, where we could see offshore islands, all covered in rainforest. We arrived in Cape Tribulation to find our hostel was in the middle of the rainforest, with parrots squawking in the trees and animals running around at night. I took a walk along the beach, where "bush meets beach", or "reef meets rainforest", because the rainforest stops and the beach starts, so it looks very pretty. You can't swim there due to recent crocodile sightings but I had a paddle and looked at the creepy looking trees growing out of the sea. I even found a dead lobster and some coconuts. I fell asleep that night with the sounds of insects chirping all around.
The next day I took a boat out to the Great Barrier Reef, giving great views of the coast. On the reef I went diving, seeing so many colours of fish it was amazing! I even saw a little shark (about 1.5m) and some stingray (largest about 1.5m). Back on the beach I saw a monitor lizard about a metre long. I then took the bus back to Cairns.
