I am now in sunny Brisbane, but before I tell you about that I will update on the last day in Byron. The rain stopped, so myself, Pam and Jorien (dutch girl I met) hired mountain bikes and cycled to the Lighthouse, the most easterly point of mainland Australia. We could see for miles over the beach and it was very pretty. We even saw lots of dolphins jumping in and out of the sea which was amazing, but due to the speed they moved I could not get a good photo. It was also very windy up there, hence my hair in the photos! The following day we just wandered about a bit until catching the bus to Brisbane. On the way to the city we stopped off and went zorbing. This is where you get into a giant inflatable ball filled with water and they push you down a hill. It was so much fun!
Brisbane is very built up, and does not have that much to see. However yesterday I wandered about for a few hours by the river, went to the Botanical gardens and the man-made beach. I saw a huge lizard about half a metre long and also went along Story Bridge. In the evening we ate stupidly cheap steak ($6). Today I headed off to a koala sanctuary, on the way passing the XXXX beer brewery. At the sanctuary, I hugged a koala (very cute) and fed some kangaroos (also very cute). I bought an ice cream while I was there and got attacked by a very innocent (but deadly) looking bird, which actually pecked the ice cream while I was licking it! Back in Brisbane I went up the clocktower to look at the skyscrapers.
Had an issue with my bank cards not working, so rang up Mum at midnight in England (oops, sorry) but then realised it was because you can only take out $500 a day but that is an English day, so even though it was a new day in Oz, at home it was still Tuesday, oops! Sorry for waking you up for no reason! Tomorrow I am off to Hervey Bay and Fraser Island wooooo!
