It was only a 20 minute drive from Queenstown to Arrowtown, a pretty little village surrounded by mountains and forests. We walked up and down the main street, looking at the old-fashioned buildings that looked like they belonged in the Wild West. We sampled the quaint sweet shop with the sweets all in jars. The girl there gave us free fudge. We bought pie from the bakery for lunch. Then we went for a wander around the Chinese settlement, the ruins of where the Chinese gold miners lived in the 1800s. It was a collection of tiny shacks and a restored shop on the side of a hill by a pretty little stream that had icicles on the tree. After this we headed up through the Cardrona Valley to Wanaka.
