Where I stayed
A lot of Argentinians carry a flask of hot water around and have a mug with a metal straw. They fill the cup with Mate (pronounced like martay) which is a bitter herbal tea and if they are in a group they share the Mate around clockwise. Its all very sociable but i had never seen it in Peru Chile or Bolivia. However here in Uruguay as we walked along the beachfront it was virtually 100% of the people we saw had their flasks and were drinking out of Mate cups even as they walked around. I reckon it would catch on in the UK if the Mate cup was a pint glass and the herbal tea was Stella Artois.
Its supposed to rain at this time of year here but its sunny and about 20°c . We take a taxi to the centre of the city and there is a flea market setting up in the square.
Jean had read that they sell knockers.. for doors, stop it now. We have a wander down and its an interesting little market with bric a brac and some arts and craft but unfortunately the only knockers there were too heavy (behave) for our case so we'll have to get a doorbell instead.
We take a wander into their equivalent of Eldon Square and its heaving. Jean buys some shoes there but my attention is drawn to an ironically named shop given what we were looking for earlier. Check out the photo.
