Hola!
Six days already - unbelievable.
Morning coffee with Amanda (the awesome manager of San Simian and soon to be manager of a B & B on Little Corn Island.... another reason to return to Nica and check out the Corn Islands) and a tearful farewell to the dogs at Laguna D'Apoyo. Rush against time to make it to the ferry to Ometepe which we made with about 3 minutes to spare. The ferry ride was, well, a ferry ride. Taya wondered if the poor women in Nica wore bras... not sure of the answer but they certainly wear modest clothing (still not impressed with the topless bathers on the beach the last time we were here!). Met a couple from the Netherlands who are here on vacation with their 15 month son but also to deliver some money that they raised for a bunch of homes that they built the last time they were here. Tons of volunteer opportunities here. Anyone want to come back down here with me and help out a little?
Met our driver, Loius, who took us through the local traffic jam (silly cows hogging the road) to Santa Domingo, a beach town, for lunch. I ordered the fish soup - and lost most of my appetite when I was pulling the tiny fins and scales from my soup and my mouth!
We stopped to look at a bunch of monkeys. I'm a little surprised that Taya is not more impressed by them but she did think they were pretty cool.
Stopped at Ojo d'aqua... a thermal spa pool with a swing out into the water. Andy loved it.
Continued on the Totoco. The paved road ended and we were on very very bumpy dirt roads... I don't think I can even think of a Canadian equivalent to the roads here. Taya lost count of all the animals that we saw on the side of the road somewhere in the hundreds.
Arrived at Totoco Eco Lodge... google it, it is this fabulous off the grid lodge. I think that Taya may have seen one of her most memorable sunsets tonight looking out over Lake Nicaragua and the volcano. The stars will put on a beautiful show for us tonight. I hope that she sees her first shooting star.
Andy and Taya are playing UNO. I am waiting for some pix to download and enjoying a cupa vino tinto.
Hasta Luego
Kathy

Just made the decision not to show Taya the biggest spider I have ever seen and was brought to our attention by dinner guests freaking out. Think of those hairy tarantulas and than make them a little bigger... too bad our camera is charging right now. And now people are sharing their bug stories. We need to check luggage and shoes very carefully for scorpions (which are not poisonous but still not pleasant).
Sweet dreams, eh?
