Caught the bus from Cuzco to Puno but demonstrations and road blocks meant we never got to Puno and got stranded in a place called Juliaca. Donīt think this is on the gringo trail. Itīs a really dusty, flat, dry town on the altiplano, about an hour from Puno, a kind of commuter town for people who work in Puno.
Anyway, we found this nice hostel on the main plaza, San Bolognesi, and went for pizza followed by coffee and cake in a very popular cafe. We werenīt sure how long the strike would go on - the workers blockade the roads with huge boulders so noone can get through and there were reports of smashed windows on a whole load of tourist buses - but the next morning everything seemed to be back to normal and we caught a combi (small van that carries the locals to work in Puno).
Another bus then to the Bolivian border Kasani, helped with our luggage by boy who carried us and it up the hill to immigration. No problems at the border and then got into another small van to Copacabana - our destination. Made it there by lunchtime, so only about half a day missed!
Lots of love
