Leaving! Kyrgyzstan! Peace Corps! September 13th (my welcome page is incorrect)I blast off to become a Secondary English Teacher in Kyrgyz Republic. I have only a vague idea of what this will be like. I've been too busy this summer making salads at OTG to really think about the reality of it. I guess I'll find out.
You might be wondering where Kyrgyzstan is. Well, Kyrgyzstan is a land- locked country in Central Asia. It borders China (east), Uzbekistan (west-ish), Kazakhstan (north), and Tajikistan (south-ish). A former part of the Soviet Union, Kyrgyzstan (Kyrgyz Republic)is reportedly the most accessible and friendly of the Central Asian successor states. Five million people, mostly Kryrgyz, live in Kyrgyzstan, which is over 90% mountainous. The primary spoken languages are Kyrgyz and Russian.
For more info on Kyrgyz Republic, you can check out lonelyplanet.com/destinations or the State Department website (www.state.gov/p/eur/ci/kg). To hear Kyrgyz music, check out www.kyrgyzstan.org/music. Click on the red Cyrillic to the far right of the track you want to hear.
So that's my first message. Well done.
