I had not planned to start this entry till i got to Melbourne as i had no plans for much apart from meeting Steve from the Airport and getting drunk in the nearest bar, but i had a great weekend and had to write b4 alcohol induced amnesia sets in.
I went to watch the rugby in a bar i had hoped would be full of roaring Irish and English fans for the big game! No!, we found the game was a pay-per-view event and we would have had to fork out $28 for the privilage of seeing England trounce the boys in green 45-11. Still we went to a sports bar and watched Wales France, a far better option as the brave Welsh nearly pulled it of! a great night was had there and i struggled home at around 10am and crawled into bed. rest for the rest of the weekend.......I thought......
friend of a friend traveling in Sydney did i fancy a quick drink??.....
Oh go on then a quick coke and rearrange a proper night out later in the week, can't hurt?
Met up with Susie Campbell in the Cock'n'bull (our local Irish pub in Bondi) and she twisted my arm to have a hair of the dog and .......seven hairs of the dog later we decided Tequilla was the way to go! (Gary Kennedy you have a lot to answer for mate!!) we ended up singing along to all the songs played by a duo on stage including a most amazing violin soloist i have ever seen, this guy was amazing! and we had a superb night. Our hunger gave way and we went to a Noodle bar with two new friends one of whom was singing her own "unique" style songs earlier on stage. Susie carries a tune also i was told, so any Siemens tech's reading this who know her, try to convince her to have a go next week.
So that was this weekend and although it could have been anywhere and not really travel related story, i thought it deserved a mention, How two people who have never met before could have such a laugh is testiment to the way travellers mix out here! Try it!
cheers Susie and I will b in touch when i return to Sydney to repeat the experience!
Thur 21st / Friday 22nd Feb
First impressions? cool relaxed very friendly and easy to get round (free)
I climbed aboard the packed 8pm bus to Melbourne not knowing what to expect, it has been a while since i last saw the inside of a hostel and so was excited to be on the road again, the hostel idea lasted all of 10 seconds as my mobile rang and it was a mate staying in Melbourne saying that not only could i crash at her new flat share for a few days, but that when i arrived they where heading to the Great Ocean road for a few days and there was space in the car! Cool so i have a day to melbournise myself and see what i can b4 going on the road later tonight! I have jumped into an internet cafe to get a few options and they seem to be at the moment either the MCG Melbourne Cricket Ground or a visit to the Neighbours set on Ramsey St!
Still undecided but am feeling good about a new city (apart from the fact i have just heard in the last 20 mins that:
#1 my parents are not coming to Australia for a holiday now!) but they are going on a weeks cruise from Tenerife to a few Islands and Morrocco (sp?)
bit sad but this place is better seen when well planned and with plenty of British currency in your pocket to do it properly!
#2 My good friends at Qantas Airlines have pulled the plug on their flights to India! I have yet to find out what this means to my flight in May but i will find out soon (Kath if you read this b4 i get to speak to you can you help???)
#3 I'm hungry and have a sore neck from the bus journey bye 4 now AB
