We spotted an ad for the open air cinema in Centennial Park and after a stop at the bottle shop to collect the 'picnic' Arlene and I went to watch Grease of all things! not my ideal choice at the time but the novelty of going to a park to watch a movie at night gave me the reason to go. We were treated to a great night out, the audience cheered and shouted all through the movie and the duets between the guys and the girls was really funny! The photo was taken at the start when it was half full, mainly as the 'picnic' was consumed the camera got a bit shaky. We have planned to return and this time i choose the film although Grease was a good starter!
The appartment block next to us had a bit of a strange day that day too! We returned to find a car sticking out of the first floor wall and a firebrigade crew sealing the street of. The driver (a young japanese woman) was taken away in a stretcher with a neck brace on, although we wonder how much of it was hurt pride rather than actual injury! we felt bad about taking photo's but you gotta laugh was the quote of the day!
Simon from the flat, and I have been working in a school refitting the computer department, and even though it means a 6am start we are enjoying the extended work time and with some overtime on Sunday at $44 per hour we are both saving well! Sadly though, the more we all save the sooner we all leave the flat in search of more of Australia! Three of the girls are moving on in early Feb and we will re-evaluate the lease on the flat then as we want to a return of the deposit we all paid!
We had the day of yesterday and i did venture out to do a bit of the tourist thing in Sydney for a change! I went to visit the Sky tower, which although slightly smaller than the tower in Auckland, no less impressive. The view of the Sydney skyline was breathtaking and the photo's are quite good. They have a good tour organised and it gives you a good idea of the size of the city! a few museums and galleries are next but it was just too hot to carry on through the afternoon. I watched a few buskers on Circular Quay including a woman escaping from head to toe clingfilm, while tied to a pole held six feet of the floor!
The rest of the week has been spent soaking up the weather and enjoying a prolonged sunny spell at last.
Also on the cinema front, i went to see a highly recommended French film that you all have to check out if it arrives in the UK. It is called 'Amielie' (sp?) and upon finding out that a friend of mine Chrlotte also wanted to see it we decided to go and make a night of it! so after a strange meal in an Italian resturant (they microwaved the food at the counter after you chose?????) we went to the cinema on Circular Quay in the shadow of the Opera House and the film was amazing! We laughed from start to finish and although an unorthadox non-mainstream type of film, it was probably the best film i have seen this year! If you see it and don't agree, the oscars will tell the truth!
