Where I stayed
It made a change from eating in. So far south america is NOT cheap! We are struggling to keep to what we thought was a managable budget which means less treats. It is not true that food is cheap. I think 5 years ago it may have been, countries like Argentina were still recovering from economic troubles but now prices have soared! The food in the supermarket is comparable to england with items like cereal being more expensive. We think only Peru and Bolivia will be any cheaper. We will see....I think Andy is concerned I will blow all our money on Tango classes that he doesn't want to go to. But I feel it is a cultural must! Especially for Argentina!
Still not fluent in spanish....feel like perhaps I had slightly unrealistic expectations of how much I would learn. Another thing that is not true....to all those people that said it...NO I will not just pick up spanish as I go along! Who does this? The grammar and linguistic structure is so different from English. They have about another 5 tenses completely! They also say lots of things that do not translate back into English without sounding like rubbish. Anyway as you can tell I am finding the language a doddle!
Only 8 days of classes left. I am torn between being fed up of school everyday (I don't know how we used to do it) and needing to improve my spanish for the rest of the trip. I do have a bit more empathy with Harry and James who work so hard during the school day...including play times! 4 hours does me in!
