As you can probably guess from the title we have had our first chivito and it was pretty good! We headed off to Burke's (yes..Burke's) appartment with Tom, Wolfgang and Alejandro for some wine and mate (said mar-tay) Mate is essentially very strong green tea in a leather bound cup drunk through a metal straw with a mini strainer attached to the end. Everywhere you go here you see people drinking from their cups with a flask of hot water under their arm as it needs constant topping up. There is a real art to getting it right which involves packing down the loose tea and gradually rotating the straw around before each top up. Well Burke (from Texas) has been here a while and seems to have got the knack. It is nice but you can feel the caffine!

Burke and Jill's appartment has the most amazing view of las ramblas which is the beach and they have a huge balcony on the 4th floor to enjoy it from. Very lucky.

After our first mate we went for our first chivito. It is steak meat in a bun really and you get to choose all the other things you want in it. I had ham, pickles, lettuce and cheese. Good combination!

Then we went to a bar called Burlesque...given that it was booked by a man who studies the bible for 2 hours every morning I was a little surprised at the name. Fortunately it did not turn out to be a strip bar.

Also Andy had his head sheared today and is pretty bald!
