Hiya, Fran here!

We left Magnetic Island  in the morning and got the ferry across to Townsville to hop on the bus to Airlie Beach. We watched another movie on the bus which was great as it seemed to make the bus ride shorter. It's funny because now we seem to take 5 hour bus journeys in our stride, whereas if we were in England I'm sure we would think it was unbearable! Australia is just so VAST that it's not a big deal here!

As soon as we got to the Whitsundays area and Airlie Beach we were impressed with how beautiful the sea was. Airlie Beach had a great buzzy feel about the place and straight away we couldn't wait to walk down the main strip. We checked into Base and this was the first place in Aus that we stayed in a proper dorm room. We'd stayed in dorms in Cape Trib and Mission Beach but no one was in there with us so it was just like a private room. This was the first time on our honeymoon that we had to sleep in separate beds! :0(

We walked into the dorm of 5 beds and saw that it was all full... Of girls! Andy must have thought Christmas had come early as we were sharing with two gorgeous blonde Scandinavians and a German/Irish. The Scandos must have just hand washed their underwear as it was all hanging off the end of their bunk beds... It was so funny!

Anyway, we went for a walk down the main road to check out the bars, restaurants and general feel of the place. It looked like they had some great shops so I convinced Andy that we should have a mooch around more tomorrow. Yipee! We decided to pop into the office where we needed to check in for our Whitsundays sailing trip. When we introduced ourselves as the Mahoney's the lady said she had heard of that name specifically and then started looking through some paperwork. Andy and I looked at each other... This couldn't be good.

Bad news... They said that the trip we had booked on was no longer available as the boat wasn't part of their holdings anymore! We absolutely could not believe it! I got a bit upset about it and Andy was furious. Thankfully, we had a really lovely woman who helped us find another boat to put us on. We were so lucky as most of the boats were fully booked but there was one available that went out on Sunday. Luckily, our bus tickets allowed us to go on a later boat so she booked us on a boat called "Summertime". This was actually an upgrade so we were so, so thankful that it seemed to work out. She also gave us some vouchers to use at some local restaurants as well as an apology, and later on we got free luggage storage as well, so all in all it wasn't a bad result. Our mantra seems to have come to fruition once again... Everything happens for a reason!! We decided to use the vouchers that night and headed to Cactus Jacks, a Mexican place. I had some yummy quesadillas and Andy went for the most Mexican thing on the menu.......a burger.

Anyway, we headed back to the hostel  for our complimentary welcome drink at the bar next to the hostel. At the bar we bumped into a girl we met on the bus, Charlotte, and she was with a few other friends. We invited them to come and check out the silent disco with us which was in a club just down the road. I was pretty excited as I've always wanted to go to one and we've never been before! We all ended up getting ready and going to the club together.

We had SO much fun... Silent discos are the way forward! It was a white party and the club was under UV lights where they were giving away free neon face paints in the club too. There were three music stations you could tune into. I learned something new about Andy... He listened to the Alternative House station all night whist I listened to the commercial and RnB stations (standard). He said the music really reminded him of his stag-do in Berlin and we had smiles on our faces all night whilst listening to totally different beats and music!

Oh, one funny thing that happened was that when Andy was queuing up for his face paints some young guy came up to me and started talking.
"Where a you from?" he asked.
"London" I said.
"What are you doing here? Are you traveling?" he asked again.
"I'm on my honeymoon with my husband" I replied.
"Husband?!" he asked, and swiftly turned on his heel and left! I giggled so much! Andy wasn't impressed but was amused - haha!

So ladies, if your looking to get out of a situation in a club I would highly recommend saying the above!  :0)

Anyway, we had a great night and the next day on Friday we went shopping and treated ourselves to a couple of new bits. The 'Schoolies' had arrived that day so the town was streaming with school-leavers. We had a chilled night as we didn't want to feel too old, out boozing with little 18 year olds, puking all over each other.

Saturday was the local market day, so we had a leisurely look around and bought some local fruit. We called Matt Tonkiss, our friend in Sydney, and tried to sort out plans for NYE. We had another pretty chilled day and got packed and ready for our early start for sailing the Whitsundays.

Can't wait!!

:0)
