Yo! Andy giving you the low down today!

After the shenanigans of the Townsville hostel we were pleased to be going to Magnetic Island.

We got the ferry from the terminal at around 11.30 and it was only a short 1/2 hr trip to the island itself. The water was choppier than I thought it would be. I hope it's not as choppy on our Whitsunday cruise else I fear there'll be a return of the Kaikoura whale watching feeling!

After a short bus transfer we arrived at our accommodation, Bungalow Bay. It was a lovely set up - A-framed huts in the middle of the forest surrounded by wildlife and about a 10 minute walk to the beach.....can't complain!

We were actually pretty tired when we arrived so we took a little nap to rejuvenate. By the time we woke it was getting on for sunset so we decided to head out for a walk down to the beach at Horseshoe Bay. On the way you couldn't help but notice the standard mode of transport, the mini-Moke. They're basically like convertible mini Jeeps with no doors - some were a lovely shade of bright pink! It was funny to see groups of lads trying to style out a bright pink Moke with their aviators!

Horseshoe Bay itself was a lovely beach, with a couple of bars and cafes which gave it a very chilled vibe. The sun was setting behind the hills so we stayed around to watch that, took a few pics and headed back to the hostel.

It was trivia night in the bar at the hostel which we thought we'd take part in and so when we got back we headed to the bar for that. We managed to score some free pizza and settled down with a jug of ice cold beer while we tried to answer the trivia questions.

We're following Arsenal's form this season and came mid-table! Sorry Fran!

Afterwards Fran cooked a late dinner where we had an unexpected guest - a possum - who shared the dinner table with us.

Afterwards we headed for bed, not before being made to jump by what looked like a wallaby right next to our hut - either that or it was a massive rat that hopped!

The next day we slept in until 10am which we haven't really done since we've been traveling. We've normally been up by 8.30 (standard Fran and Andy time). We didn't do much in the morning but early afternoon we decided to head down to Horseshoe Bay to chill out on the beach and work on the tan. I'd started reading Karl Pilkington: An Idiot Abroad so I was happy just to sit off and read that while Fran updated the blog.

The evening was spent in the bar with a couple of pizzas (they didn't have anything else on the menu) before we went to bed.

We've liked Magnetic Island and particularly Horseshoe Bay with its chilled out vibe. Tomorrow we leave for Airlie Beach, the jump off point for our cruise around the Whitsundays.....cannot wait!!

'til then...

Make full use of your silk liners, I didn't make it on a whitsundays boat but apparently they're full to the brim with bed bugs! Definitely go to Fraser Island if you can, great experience and place
