Where I stayed
Twin Pines Holiday Park
After 3 days of rain we were stir crazy so we had to leave Ruakaka just for a change of scenery! We decided to drive the short distance north to Whangerei to see what that had to offer.
To be honest we wished we hadn't, Whangerei was a bit of a nothing town and we didn't get a very good vibe from it with people staring at us, our phone, camera etc. It felt uncomfortable. So after a quick wander round we bought some sushi for lunch to treat ourselves after 3 days in the van and headed further north to Tutukaka
There was a trip in Tutukaka that we actually wanted to do called 'Perfect Day' which encompassed a boat trip, snorkelling and kayaking. We thought we'd check it out the next day Thursday. So we headed to Tutukaka holiday park to chill out for the evening. There was more rain that evening and the ground was pretty sodden so it wasn't looking great for the boat trip the next day.
The next day (Thursday) we tried to do the Perfect Day trip but unfortunately there wasn't enough people to make it worth there while which was a shame because the weather wasn't too bad. We thought about snorkelling but it was too much money and couldn't really justify the expense. So we decided to drive up to Paihia which is famous for the Bay Of Islands.
When we arrived it was buzzy, clearly a very touristy place as there were lots of buses of tours waiting to board boat cruises. On the way in we saw a farmers market and thought that looked like a great place to mooch for a bit so we parked up and headed in. It was a lovely market and a good place to while away the afternoon.
Afterwards we headed to twin pines holiday park to chill out for the evening and get some grub.
All-in-all a pretty chilled couple of days again.
Until next time.
