Where I stayed
Hi Everyone,
Today I went to the downtown Fairbanks area to look at the Visitor's center. Inside there is some nice displays on the native Alaskan people and how they hunt the games and fish. They natives live in small vllages with no access to roads thus making winter time excessively difficult to get food and suppkies from the outside. Therefore, they make their own food by drying the salmon into strips and pickle them in brine. This way the salmon lasts much longer. I also saw a nice display on the conservation of Alaskan wildlife refuge. Very interesting. On my way out of the museum, the blowing snow from yesterday's heavy snow fall is just every where, making an impressive scene. After a brief walk in the downtown area, I took t he local bus on my way home. On the bus, I ran into a nice man carrying a huge metal drill and he is supposely doing ice fishing, how interesting.
In the evening, I met up with Shohei in my homestay and had a nice chat with him about all the nice places he can visit in LA, SF and Peru. he is taking a whole year off work to go around the world. So I mentioned about Couchsurfing and Hostelworld to allow him to save some bucks. He was quite happy about it.
