17th - Left Chefchaouen to travel to Rabat via Ouezzane where we would try to get our visas for Mauritania and Mali as well as explore the city.  On the drive down we were surrounded by lush green countryside and wide open spaces once we'd left the Rift Mountains.  Ben put some Irish music on the truck for celebrating St. Patrick's day.  Managed to get our Mali visas straight away, 1st of the trip.

Distance covered today =  294 km
Total distance = 453 km

18th - Came back to the Marjane (supermarket) to try for the Mauritania visa, a few of us have remained on the truck whilst the rest have gone exploring.  Still waiting for our last group member to turn up.

19th - Spent half a day in Casablanca, a sprawling European-style city, which is home to wide boulevards and imposing Hispano-Moorish and Art Deco buildings.  About half the group went while the rest stayed in Rabat, and our last group member Tamara finally arrived.

Explored the Medina - the oldest part of the town - and walked towards the mosque on the coast passing the famous Rick's Cafe (from the movie).  The  enormous and incredibly ornate Hasan II mosque is defintely worth the visit, I didn't go in but others that did said it was very interesting and beautiful.

Went back to Rabat and celebrated Kirsten's 22nd birthday, the first birthday party of the trans.

20th - Still no Mauritania visa so we're heading off to see the Volubilis Roman Ruins north of Meknes.  Leaving our 2nd home in Rabat, and Morocco, the Marjane.
