Where I stayed
Cavendish National Park
Arrived in Prince Edward Island in the afternoon after another long drive. We crossed into PEI over The Confederation Bridge the world's longest bridge over ice-covered water that is 8 miles long.
Arriving on the Island was a complete contrast to virtually everything we have seen in Canada. The fields were smaller, rolling hills small woods, it was almost like being back in the UK. It really is a beautiful Island so quiet and relaxing, its the sort of place you could go for 3 months to write a book or chill out. No place on the Island is more than 10 miles from the sea so many homes have beautiful views. Most days the weather was really good to us. We stayed at a National Park located at Cavandish beach. It was a lovely sandy beach in contrast to most of the islands red sands. We drove around the north part of the island where there will lots of lighthouses and wind turbines.
On one of the days the weather was overcast in the morning so went to Anne of Green Gables house, Cavandish on PEI is where Lucy Maud Montgomery took her inspriation from to write her best selling book. It really is a beautiful place. Later we drove to the capital called Charlottetown in the afternoon and spent some time in the mall. Ellen got her retail therapy as there is no tax on clothes and shoes on the island. Too say it rained in the afternoon was an understatement !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For about 3 hours it was torrential rain and well over 2 inches fell in the afternoon. At least the rain didn't have far to go to the sea
PEI is famous for its potatoes but also its Lobster, so we had the 'traditional' Lobster meal. However, we all enjoyed the mussels more and managed to consume nearly 4 buckets full!!
After packing the trailer tent we drove back across Confederation Bridge on our way to Cape Bretton Island..
