Friday morning we left for New York leaving at 8.15am and headed south 473 miles !!!!!! Weather was good with no snow or rain fore casted so the roads were clear and quick. Driving here is so easy as roads are all dual carriageway although to get anywhere takes a long time. We were going well until we hit New Jersey late on a Friday night and took 1 1/2 hours to go through the Lincoln Tunnel to Manhattan. Luckily our trusted friend Lola got us safely to our hotel first time.

Arrived at 5.45pm unpacked and off we went to Times Square for a look around and dinner.
We did some shopping at Time Warner by Central Park which was only 2 blocks from our hotel.
We had arranged with our friend Jean's daughter Claire to meet up at the Empire State Building at 8.15am on Saturday. Jean was in New York for a long weekend to celebrate her 60th birthday.
She was shocked to see us there.  We had a great time together shopping, eating  and sightseeing.  The following day we strolled around Central Park and then met up with Jean, Max, Claire & Adrian at Ground Zero and then had lunch.  We viewed it from their Hotel room (see photos below) It's still a massive whole. When you remember how high they were, it's really quite a frightening thought of what it must have been like when they fell.  After lunch we all went to the Rockefeller Centre.  It was a taxi ride away through busy traffic which was an experience!!!  The Tree is a huge Norway Spruce 75ft high with a Swarovski crystal star at the top.  It has an ice skating to the side of it which was really busy.   We did some more shopping at Macey's the Worlds biggest department store and headed for Broadway to see Mama Mia!  It was a great show with everyone dancing at the end to Dancing Queen etc.  After the show we walked around Times Square which was buzzing.  The following day we caught the tube to Century 21 shopping Mall and then walked to Battery Park to see The Statue of Liberty from a distance.  There is a 3 month wait for tickets to the crown so we decided to do it again in the warm weather!!  We walked to Wall Street and then caught the tube back to the shops!!  Macey's had 25% off for the weekend (Ellen did well!!) and they have some fantastic window displays.  We went to FAO Schwarz toy shop and the kids had a go on the piano from the film 'BIG'.  The Toys R Us is massive in Times Square; it has a huge ferris wheel in it!!   The decorations are great in most of the shops.  The Cartier Building was lovely and also the Saks Building which had loads of snowflakes that went on and off to Christmas Music.

We left at about 4.30pm and we all really enjoyed ourselves and especially seeing our friends from London.  We will definitely be back as New York is one of our favorite cities and the shopping is so much cheaper!!!!  On the drive home we hit a snow storm in Syracuse with 5 inches of snow and had an 1 1/2 stop for food and more shopping!  We arrived home at about 2.00am.  The kids slept in the car so they were fine, but we were shattered the next day!!!

We are now looking forward to Christmas!!
