We arrived in Lake Tahoe about 3pm on Monday 10th August.  Our campsite was called Fallen Leaf in South Tahoe.  It was a US Dept of Agriculture site and had no electricity ($20 p.n).  It was a lovely camp site with large pitches and our very own bear box to store food.  We spent some time on Pope Beach and then went for ice-cream.  It was nice to get back in our trailer tent after spending quite a few nights in Hotel's recently.  We had BBQ chicken & steak and had our usual camp fire!!  The fire was great as Andy & Greg collected lots of wood and large pine corns (While chopping wood Andrew got sung by a wasp, the pain was intense and made him hop around!!)  Tuesday morning we decided we would explore Lake Tahoe and drive around it and visit a few different beaches.  Lake Tahoe is about 22miles long and 12 miles wide, and takes about 2.5 hrs to drive around as its 78 miles . It is 1600ft deep and could cover the state of California in 14 inches of water. It really is a beautiful fresh water lake at 6,500ft above sea level. The water in the lake never reaches the sea as it only flows into a smaller lake. We started at Emerald Bay which is apparently the most photographed.  It's beautiful, formed after the last ice age.Tahoe.  We then drove to Meeks Bay and decided to have our picnic on the beach and go for a swim.  After we'd eaten our sandwiches we paddled in the crystal clear water then decided to swim to a large inflatable floating raft which we thought at first belonged to the Resort.  A lady was swimming over and said it needed more air.   When John her son-in-law brought it back she said we were welcome to use it.  We got chatting with Dale and her husband Jack.  The company was great so we stayed on their raft most of the day!!! They were on a family holiday in Lake Tahoe for 2 weeks.  Dale was originally from California but was now living in Las Vegas.  We met all Dale’s family and her grandchildren (around the same age as Ellen & Greg) They invited us back to their house for a BBQ.  It was a really lovely evening!! The kids had a brilliant time with their new friends Taylor & Kayleigh.  They taught each other new card games and had lots of fun.  The BBQ was lovely and the fresh home made cookies and ice-cream with delicious!!  We left about 10.30pm and exchanged email addresses. We will keep in touch.  Wednesday we woke up early (7.30am) and had our first morning camp fire as it was cold!  It is about 84f in the day but the temperature does go down to 50f at night.  We drove around Lake Tahoe to see the rest of the Bays.  We were camping on the Californian side but 1/3 of Lake Tahoe is in Nevada.  When you cross the border to Nevada there are lots of Casino’s (Its just like being back in Vegas!)  We checked out of our trailer park at 2.00pm and started the 5 hour drive to Yosemite National Park.  We were all sad to leave but have some lovely memories.  We would love to come back sometime!
