The journey up US1 takes you past some stunning views.    The road from Pismo to Monterey was very different from the previous journey from Santa Barbara. The weather was cooler and the vegetation greener not brown. More woods on the side of the road and jagged headland cliffs with small beaches. Also the cooler air causes small fogs/mists and when driving over a headland about 200m above the sea, its like looking down on clouds and you can't view the sea.  The drive was very twisty and steep in places. The drive was over 150 miles and enjoyable but its the longest drive we've done with no gas station!!!!!!! We stopped off at Hearst Castle (the newspaper billionaires home) for a quick view. We continued along the road and cooked on our gas BBQ some lovely steak sandwiches by the beach. Along the journey there were many stops, the bays are lovely and empty!   Once in Monterey we walked by the Aquarium and across the pier there were so many sea lions bathing in the sun!  We stayed in Monterey RV Park and had a late start (laundry to do!) before driving up the coast past Santa Cruz (it had a fair ground on the beach) and Pacifica.  We arrived In San Francisco at 4.00pm.
