Wednesday 22nd July we drove the scenic byway from Grand Junction to The Arches NP. We saw some spectacular red stone mesas and canyons just like the movies!!! There were lots of rafters on the Colorado River which actually was much smaller than we thought (still 500 miles before the Grand Canyon).   We arrived at The Arches after lunch and did some trails to see the delicate arch etc.  It was so hot (+100f) man we mean hot! we walked less than a mile and at the end soaked ourselves at the water taps !!!!  Then we went to Canyonland NP.  It was very different!!!! Even though it was only 40 minutes away by car. The view from the top of the Mesa 10,000 feet above sea level was overwhelming. Down below were numerous canyons and the Colorado River which you could not see. You could see for miles. We camped the night at Moab and had another camp fire and toasted marshmallows!!! Weather at night was cooler 86f, we had no trouble sleeping.

Only problem today was that our camcorder is beyond repair. Off to Walmart tomorrow !!!!!!!!!!!

Stop enjoying yourselves
And keep up the regular updates, some of us miserable buggers need your travels to keep them going. Well I do anyway:-)

Warmer than Wales
Well the trip looks more fab all the time, but I'm still a bit concerned with your petrol consumption, or should I say Gasoline as I suspect you'll be halfway to being totally immersed in their strange use of the English language man. Has the high altitude made it go even worse?
Zoe and the kids are at Porthgain in West Wales but so far haven't had the same sort of weather as your getting. It was another long drive from North Wales to West Wales, but I guess compared with your mamouth legs it was a mere day trip.
Everyone is getting excited about coming over and the Ponty crowd are looking forward to next summer and consider us the guinea pigs.
Nice photos - keep em coming. Bye for now.
