Today is a day for doing some truck repairs in town, for us to stock up at the supermarket and perhaps find some wifi in town. We had a breako of bacon (ooohhhh) beans and toast which was high class for us. We packed up and left just before 9am
We went to an internet café and after 15 minutes got so frustrated with internet connection speed and inability to log onto e-mail - hotmail barred us because we are in Africa! The truck was still not fixed from an incident with the gatepost of the last campsite (both van and campsite suffered damage) it had to go for some welding. We headed for a bank and then a coffee shop where we found most of the rest of our truck. We had a brew and to follow the Stevo trendsetting Robyn was that impressed with my new watch I had to nip back with her and strike the same deal again
The truck arrived again and we were soon off to our next stop though not before an announcement that there has been an outbreak of Ibola on our route into Uganda, we are now banned from kissing or touching anyone – I told Erica it was just contact with the locals but Erica told me that to be on the safe side it should be with anybody - (I guess the lack of shower situation is a put off). We drove through Kenyan fields in the direction of Uganda, we passed a lot of areas where there were still signs of the Kenyan riots on the run up to the elections, we saw quite a few burnt out buildings before the altitude kicked in and the truck wanted to close up the sides to keep out the cold.
We stopped for lunch and soon had a posse of school children who had come to look at the tourists. I asked if I could take a picture and Kanyo asked them, the response was as long as they can see it they will be happy. Erica gave me the camera off the truck and in my haste I dropped it again damaging the camera. The shutter now will not close, ouch
We finally arrived at our campsite and Erica happened to ask if this was one of the places where it was possible to ‘upgrade’ at this campsite. Before we knew it Erica was making a decision between standard and executive rooms. Now for those of you who have followed our previous blogs whenever Erica has done any accommodation choices we have blown budget and stayed in the most expensive rooms in the premium end of the backpacker market. Now on this occasion Erica was found loitering outside a room with a plaque on the door saying Bill Gates furnished the room for his stay. The rooms were lovely and after a week and a half of camping to have a bed and your own bathroom is amazing and a real luxury.
The bar too was amazing and a bit like the bar from star wars (in a good way), with only us in there and a wood fire lit in the centre of the bar it was great. Meat Balls for tea and Erica and I retired back to the bar. We were joined only by a few of the guys and some stayed behind as on a budget they refused the bar and had bought a few bottles of very cheap local rum. After they had drunk two litres between them they were anialated and pure comedy gold existed in games of Chinese whispers and other ludicrous games. Arial was also taught a new swear word and told by the Aussies this word was not at all offensive, thus he was calling any passers by an "f’ing c".
We got to bed at about 12.30am in our luxury room - with two pillows!
