We also heard about other boats that go crabbing but plant the crabs in the pots just for tourists and have at times forgotten to take the bands off the pincers. Very funny!!!
We went back to the pier and it was time for a spot of fishing, we tried flicking the lure a few times and surprisingly I got a bite but couldn’t land it. In the midday sun we headed for the comfort of another proper Aussie boozer. Whilst the drink was again expensive (for us anyway) a real cultural experience that could not be missed. In the second pub we were joined by the patrolling Nico who was trying to sell his wares to locals and tourists alike.
After this we headed back to camp via an avid firewood collecting trip. We nearly hit a Kangaroo on the road and saw wild horses which were simply just brilliant. With a load of wood on Col’s roofrack (what else is this truck built for?) we got back and 'flicked the lure’ for a few barras in the creek. Unfortunately all we caught between us was a few branches with the lure making for some impressive photo’s still it was a beautiful location to have few beers and relax with good friends
After more and more drinks, G & T’s included, and my duty free slipping away we lit a bonfire and were soon joined by Graham and Nelly and some new neighbours. A dreadfully racist couple from South Africa who appeared to want to end Aboriginal rights and a French mother and son. Of course my first comment "Parley Vous Francais" which got a rather cordial reception. After the jobs of lighting the fire Col was soon on with BBQ’ing while we got onto politics and the Lady from South Africa and Gent (who was a Vietnam War vet) were escorted from the bonfire by a rather drunk Lady E. The fire and conversation ended as we all split to bed knackered from a combination of red wine, G&T’s, beers and sea air, well all except one..... Col made sure the fire was no longer a hazard and cleared up all our mess. What a guy!
