We held back in the queue as everyone piled on to the first boat leaving the second boat much emptier and a lot nicer, then we headed out to our first snorkelling spot between Trawangan and Meno. Here we saw a shipwreck with a lot of fairly big shoals of fish swimming around
When we had finished snorkelling we had a long lunch at a beach front bar on Gili Air which was nice to get the chance to see one of the other islands up close. It was much more slow paced on Gili Air compared to Trawangan but had it’s own quiet charm. We decided that we were quite glad that we had just stayed on Gili Trawangan and not spent a couple of nights on each island (this was what we intended at first) as it was nice to have a choice of restaurants and bars to visit in the evening. We got the boat back to our island and picked up a few beers from Aldi along with a large bag of Lays Salmon Teriyaki crisps and got out the I-Pod on the porch.
We think that Lays are in fact Walkers under their Asian name. They are everywhere and strangely enough you can tell where you are in the world just by popping in to a shop and looking what flavours of Lays they stock. Here in Indonesia it is Salmon Teriyaki or Nori Seaweed, in India it was Massala, China had Hot and Spicy and Malaysia was all about the Barbecue. We expected the Salmon Teriyaki to be similar to prawn cocktail but unfortunately for me it was very much like Salmon even Andrew didn’t like them much – we thought we would give the Seaweed a miss.
Down on the beach we found our favourite cheap bar – Rudy’s – and had a few cheap gin and tonics, about 65p for a single measure and just over a pound for a double
We found a new cheap restaurant close by so ate there which was delicious Andrew had Chilli Bean soup and I had spaghetti which was a nice change from fried rice. It ended up being a pretty late night by the time we got back and sadly the next day here was to be our last so we wanted to make the most of it and have a very lazy relaxing final day sadly our tropical island getaway was coming to an end.
