Where I stayed
After a couple of hours on the road and watching the chick flick ‘Step Up 2’, we stopped at a lunch stop which was "eat as much as you can" which despite our new smaller appetites left no option to a budget traveller other than eat as much as you physically can
We then changed buses again to a big luxury coach with air con and lots of leg room and set off towards the oldest rainforest in the world, Taman Negara National Park. We were looking forward to getting somewhere with internet so we could e-mail Cheryl and let her know we may be earlier than planned in Singapore, well much earlier. It took us another 2 hours to reach Jerantut where we had to purchase our permits for the park and then another 90 minutes to get to Kuala Tahan where we were due to stay. With less money than we really would like we had no choice but to take the 10 Ringgit a night dorm option at Liana Hostel but we were very pleasantly surprised, we had WIFI, a room to ourselves, a great fan and a river view (through mesh)! All for 2 pounds a night! Back in budget, wheyhey!
We dumped our bags and walked down to the river to one of the floating restaurants to get some tea. Most were full and we couldn’t even get a table, weirdly despite it being low season in Thailand, here in Malaysia just over the border its high season. We eventually got some food, a chicken curry and an Indian thali and watched some locals start to fire dance around a bonfire on the banks of the river. We walked back to the hostel just up some stone steps and carried on watching them dance as we finally checked our emails and blog, thanks for all your messages guys! We also found that our no money had been sorted by my mummy but it had credited a few hours too late, thank you for checking though you must have realised our problem.
With our bunk beds beckoning we sloped off to bed, the sounds of the jungle across the river ominously lulling us to sleep.
