Where I stayed
The Red Inn, Love Lane
We woke late again and met Rorie and Emer at about 11am after breakfast. I had a quick samosa and a piece of toast then we set off to get the public bus to the Penang National Park. The bus took longer than expected being about an hour but took us through the main luxury resorts on the island. It seemed a whole world away from the city of Georgetown. It still reminded us a lot of the UK and we are still adjusting to modern cars, comfortable buses and known brands (even the bus had WIFI).
We walked along a creeking old jetty to look at the fishing boats before heading into the National park proper. We stopped halfway down to the forest for a rest and a bit of a chill where I almost removed my testes trying to climb a tree via a rope. In the interests of equality Emer made it look very easy while I had promptly fallen straight off. We also saw a huge lizard out at sea although we were not sure as it was so big Erica thought it was a log but the speed it went it must have been a lizard. (It was proven to be a lizard by several other sightings throughout the day).
The highlight of the park was perhaps the canopy walkway, whilst only being 250m through the canopy of the jungle it was terrifying especially with Erica and Rorie's decision to jump about and act the fool trying to make the bridge sway as much as possible.
We walked back through the forest and also saw some monkeys in the trees before seeing another huge lizard in the water. When we got back to the park entrance we were called over to look at a lizard that had been captured and tied up. There seemed little point in tying it up as they said they were going to release it later so it just seemed a bit like animal torture to me. We got the bus back to the guest house which seemed a lot quicker than the way there.
After a quick bit of sorting things out online we headed out for a bite to eat and a few beers. Well we found Bar Street and the prices nearly blew our minds. It must have been about 5 pound a pint, needless to say we didn't take them up on that but we did have a quick bite to eat there. We then headed back to 'our bars’ which were much cheaper, we tried a new bar tonight who did large Skol for 11.50 RMb (About £2.15). I was only going for one but it really was the last goodbye (despite the fact we have previously had two already). This turned into about 12 like it normally does and at about 1am we called it a night. It was good craik though. So farewell Rorie and Emer two weeks left guys enjoy them.
