Wow, received free breakfast and lunch tokens from the kindly train staff, we havent worked out why.  Anyway, as cheap skate travellers we got to the restaurant car at 6.55am (the token stated breakfast 7.00-9.00), and received our hard boiled egg, 2 slices of bread and a sachet of jam to watch the sunrise.  Oh and a china tea.  Welcome to China!!!!  Andrew ate my egg as I couldnt face it, I'm not a breakfast person, anyone will tell you.  Hit lunch at 11.00am on the dot (it started at11am), that was lovely, a meatball with rice with a salad, yum!  Also beers are only 1 pound, bonus!!!

Beijing is so built up on the approach, industrialisation on a scale that you wouldnt believe, apparently the city of Beijing is the size of Belgium, so we were told.  Andrew?  Where's Belgium?

Arrived in Beijing at about 2pm, a little man from the hostel was waiting for us to take us on a bus to our new home for the next 5 days.  Quickly felt at home here in a great hostel with lots of friendly faces.  Updated the blog after days of neglect, sorry guys!  Then we had a few drinks in the bar and decided that we were very hungry and that we would explore the night market that was only round the corner from our hostel.  Well, there was so much on offer, Starfish, locusts, chicken hearts, livers, scorpions, I even got offered a snake on a skewer, on my first night!  We eventually decided to go into a restaurant just behind the stalls which looked very reasonable, 3 duck heads were only 50p.  I chose Shredded pork in yellow bean whilst Andrew chose Spicy donkey hot pot.  This was not a hot pot as we know it.  It was donkey with about 15 red chillis in a black pot over a flame.  It was 3 pounds.  I thought not to try it would be rude and it was very nice i have to say.  Andrews face was streaming with sweat he said he hadnt tried anything that hot before, ever!  He pickef them out and the chillis were overflowing his plate there were that many!  He had to order additional beer to compensate, or thats what he told me!

Looks like it's Donkey Chilli Surprise when you get back - made with Andrew's special paint stripper hot sauce. I don't want any skin left in my mouth!!!!
