Another early morning, we got up for our predeparture meeting at 6.30am. Following our meeting at 7am we had breakfast in a budget cafeteria style room. The room was very busy and there werent enough tables. Breakfast consisted of cold curried vegetarian sausages, mash potatoes and naan bread-it was rather gross.

But then we were at least on our way and on the coach to Giza (still part of Cairo but used to be two cities - either sides of the Nile) for the pyramids and the sphinx.

Driving through Cairo is apparently rush hour always and we saw all sorts of vehicles and people sleeping on the top of vehicles. Our first sighting of the pyramids was in fact from the motorway appearing in the skyline through the suburbs.

We first drove up to the base of he great pyramid and the second pyramid where our guide gave us the background to their construction. 2 out of 3 pharoes were kind enough to build pyramids for their mothers/wives/daughters but they were significantly smaller.

We went inside the second pyramid which involved a lot of crouched walking in tight spaces before emerging in a rather stuffy open chamber. Was good to have been inside but it was of course empty.

We then headed up to the panoramic view point to take as our guide called "our facebook pictures" before a complimentary 10min camel ride.
Then onto the sphinx which was actually smaller than we expected and also the sight of a recent Andrea Bocelli concert. Carved out of one great stone nonetheless it was impressive and great to see in person.

From there we got a little sold too with a "lunch stop" at the perfumery and then a papyrus factory .....
