Vítejte v Praze
Although Camping Jolly advertised a shuttle service to Treviso (airport we departed from), it only ran when it wasn't ferrying people to downtown Venice, which was a 1 hour gap at lunch time! As we needed to be at the airport by 11am that kinda didnt help .. at all. Anyway, we managed with a trusty Ryan Air sponsored shuttle from Piazzale Roma and were even at the airport a little early. Luckily the airport security man liked the size of my bag, although sent others back to check in or asked them to combine their multiple bags into 1!
Nice flight over the Dolomites, across Austria and into the Czech Republic, and our wonderful hostel directions got us to the door (across Prague) in around an hours time and for less than Ł1 each!
The hostel has some wonderful little furry pets ... not sure what species they really are, but they look like a cross between a squirrel a small marmot, or some other domesticated rodent. Had a great time playing with them, although only 1 was allowed out of the cage as the other is apparently a bit naughty.
Found a local pizzeria where we got a takeaway lunch to eat in the park, before heading into Prague centre for the first time. Checked out the evening scene at the Charles bridge and the town square, picked up some shopping and wandered the pedestrian streets before back to the hostel for an early night. Saw an amazing artist doing portraits in 25mins, airbrushing and with charcoal and pencil. He drew quite a crowd (no pun intended), but his work was not cheap.
Will hit the main tourist spots tomorrow, although also considering a day trip out to either Kutna Hora or into the countryside.
Oh also just got a wonderful email from EasyJet regarding our flight to Paris:
"We have been notified by the French Authorities that there is industrial action planned by employees of French Air Traffic Control on 23rd September 2010. This issue affects all airlines and at this time your flight is not affected, however as France is centrally located in Europe and over 64% of our flights touch French Air Space we anticipate that there could be a significant level of disruption"
Yet another French strike ... shouldn't be surprised .... but we're hoping it wont effect us! We were pushing our arrival time to the last train into the city as it was .. so cant afford any delays .. let alone another cancellation. Will keep you posted on any changes required.
