Munnar rimes with Tea. This is where most of the Indian Tea is grown and processed. Located along side the Western Ghats, a mountain ridge that follows the North-South axis in southern India, Munnar has the perfect climate for Tea to grow. The mountains are covered by a giant green blanket made of tea plantations. It makes for the most beautiful landscape I have seen in India. It's a rural area so there's not much pollution and it's much quieter than in the cities along the coast.
Many roads were under construction and I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw how everything is done manually. There is no machinery involved whatsoever. Men and women work along side with sledge hammers and shovels. Quite impressive, especially the sight of a women breaking rocks with a sledge hammer.
Getting to Munnar is a little bit of a hassle though, because of the poor quality of the road. No train goes up the mountains so you have to take a bus. The beautiful landscape makes up for it but the 6 hour ride from Kovalam seemed to last forever.
